Chapter 4
Complicated feelings
Nick’s POV
I open my eyes slowly as I look at my phone. Shit! Miley and I are late. I look down and I see her snuggled in my chest while I have an arm wrapped around her. But then it hit me, I ended up falling asleep at Miley’s and I never told Joe.
I quickly shake Miley’s arm as I whisper. “Miley wake up were going to be late.”
She jumps up and realizes we fell asleep. “Oh wow I didn’t know we fell asleep, what are we going to tell Rob?” She asks nervously.
“Well think of something.” I answer back as she goes upstairs to change.
At the studio
“Um Nick you should changed into some different or else Rob is going to think something happened.” Miley says as she fixes her hair and makeup.
“Well I didn’t have time and I don’t care if I’m wearing the same clothes. Also, you look great you don’t to keep fixing yourself.” I say back feeling weird that I just complimented her.
“Um thanks. Do you always compliment girls that you work with?” She asks as I tense up. She sure knows how to get answers out of people.
“Uh yeah but it was just a friendly gesture.” I answer back as I smile slightly.
“Well since were being honesty, your hair is really pissing me off. Like that curl keeps covering your eyes.” She says as she runs her fingers through my hair. “Much better now I can see your chocolate brown eyes.” Miley says with a grin.
‘You know if my hair bugs you I can just wear a bandana headband.” I say while smirking.
She giggles as she flicks one of my hairs. “Uh hell no! That would make you look like a girl.” She says.
“But wouldn’t I make a cu-“But before I could answer back, Rob came in and he didn’t look happy.
“Why are you two late?” Rob asks while glancing at Miley and Nick.
Miley plays with her fingers nervously as she speaks. “We um overslept.”
Nick nods as he gets what Miley is doing. “Yeah sorry Rob it won’t happen again.”
“Okay well I wanted to talk to you two about some press conferences you’ll need to do, so you we can promote Miley’s new album.” Rob says as he hands us some sheets of paper.
“Wait why do I have to be there, I mean it’s about her and I’m just her producer.” I reply as I see her roll her eyes at my comment.
“Well they want to interview you Nick too, so that’s why.” Rob answers back.
“Yeah Nick just so you know I like to be in the spotlight.” Miley says joking while giving Nick a sheepish smile.
I don’t know what’s going on between Miley and I, but were always teasing each other and finding ways to push each other’s buttons, but in a good way. I’m normally hanging with guys and Lacey, but I did go on a couple of dates but they didn’t really work out, so I stopped trying.
The Next Day
Joe’s POV
I’ve never seen Nick stay out the whole night and come back home the next morning. I was wondering where he was last night. I knew he wasn’t on some date because he would have told me.
Nick is cooking eggs and bacon as Joe walks in. “Morning bro.” Nick says as he glances at Joe.
“Hey where were you last night?” I ask as he sits down.
“I was at Miley you know doing some music stuff. We watched a movie and fell asleep.” Nick answers back as he sets a plate down for Joe and him.
“Oh well it took forever to get Lacey to fall asleep, she kept calling your name.” I say taking bite of the eggs.
“Really? I didn’t know she missed me that much. I was only gone only one day.” He says.
“Well you are her dad, so it’s obvious that she would miss you. Plus I haven’t seen you stay at girls place since like forever.” I reply.
“I know I guess I forgot what it was like to be 24 year old single guy without a daughter, but since I focused more on work and raising Lacey. I never really took time for myself.” Nick reples as he takes a bite of bacon.
“Just don’t forget your responsibilities as a single dad. Lacey needs you now more than ever, so don’t forget that she is in your life.” I say in a serious voice.
“I see what you’re saying and I could never forget about Lacey, she’s the reason I’m still working and living my life.” He says back
“Dude do you like her or something?” I ask.
“I guess I do like her, but I can’t like her. I mean I’m just her producer and that’s it. Plus this will mess things up if we did date.” Nick answers back.
With Miley
“Miley have you seen the magazines?” Selena asks.
“Um no is there something interesting on them?” Miley asks back.
“Well there is a picture on the front cover of Nick at your doorstep and you opening the door with a smile.” Selena says as she shows Miley the magazine.
I look at the picture and my eyes widen. “What? How did they get this picture? I should have been more careful and told Nick to enter in the back entrance.” Miley says back.
“What exactly happened? Because it looks like you went on a date.” Selena replies.
“But we didn’t it, we were just hanging out and I guess now people think were dating.” Miley says.
“Wow just imagine trying to leave your house now and having paparazzi all over you with questions.” Selena replies
Miley smacks herself in the head. “Oh my god this was some innocent hang out with Nick and now it’s turning into “Oh my god were dating” and “And look Miley Cyrus is hooking up with some curly-haired guy”. I’m not sure I want to leave my house Sel and deal with the media and there bull shitty questions.” Miley says.
“Miles just calm down, I’ll be here with you if you feel upset about this.” Selena says while wrapping her arm around Miley’s shoulder and smiles comforting.
“Thanks Sel I’m not sure I can deal with this on my own.” Miley says as she gets up.
“That’s what friends are for, so how do you feel about this all?” Selena asks as she follows Miley to kitchen.
“Now everyone thinks Nick and I are going out when were just friends.” Miley says as she frantically walks back and forth.
“Did it ever occur to you that maybe you like him?” Selena asks.
Miley looks at Selena with a shocking face. “I don’t know Sel, I told myself that after the break up I wasn’t going to get into another serious relationship.” Miley answers back feeling confused with everything going on.
“Maybe you and Nick should talk things through and decide what to do.” Selena says as she walks away leaving Miley to think.
Later with Miley
“God damn it! Can I find a show without finding myself and Nick on every news channel. Like seriously why do they make such big deal of who I’m hanging or dating. “Miley yells at the TV. This is the downfalls of being celebrity the privacy level is so low.
As Miley is trying to watch TV and she hears tapping on her back entrance. “What the hell was that? If it’s paparazzi, I really can’t handle them now.” Miley says she opens the back door to find out of breath Nick. “Nick why are so out of breath?” Miley asks.
“I tried by best not bring any more attention, so I snuck back here.” Nick answers back.
“Oh well come on before anyone sees us.” Miley replies as she lets Nick in and locks the door.
“So how are dealing all this?” Nick asks as he looks at Miley and sees she’s kind of upset.
“I’m fine and I’m sorry you’re dealing with this too. My life sometimes gets really crazy and I’m sorry you’re part of this crazy rumor.” Miley answers back as she half smiles.
“I mean yeah it was hard to just get some coffee this morning, but I guess I know how you feel now.” Nick says smiles back.
“I hope this doesn’t make things awkward between us because this is just some stupid rumor and let’s hope it clears up.” Miley replies back.
“I think it will, but it isn’t it crazy they think were dating. Its obvious were friends right?” Nick says.
“Yeah and it doesn’t mean friends can’t hug right?” Miley says as she hugs Nick. “Thanks for coming by and checking up on me.” Miley says as she breathes in Nick’s cologne and smiles.
“No problem were friends right?” Nick hugs her back as Miley pulls away and their faces are 2 inches apart. Usually when she looks at Nick she doesn’t feel anything, but now she felt like she wanted to kiss him. But could she?
Nick was staring at Miley as she was staring at him. The silence was closed when their lips smashed together and they shared a subtly, but sweet kiss.
After a couple of minutes, Nick pulls away and sees Miley with eyes closed. “Um that wasn’t supposed to happen.” Nick says.
Miley slowly opens her eyes not believing she just kissed her producer. “Yeah me either, but this just stays between us and if people find out; who knows what would happen.” Miley says back with an awkward smile.
“Right and I think I’m going to now, I’ll see you tomorrow morning.” Nick replies feeling awkward every moment as he sneaks out back door.
Miley touches her lips as she slightly groans. “Why does this happen every time? This was supposed to be all business and now I’m so confused with how I’m feeling, especially after this kiss. How can one kiss feels wrong, but feel right at same time?
